The IPCI project is a longitudinal collection of electronic patients records from Dutch GPs
into a central research database.

The IPCI project was started in 1989 and has been proven suitable for the conduct of
descriptive and analytic research with respect to:

- Incidence and prevalence of disease;
- Natural history of disease;
- Determinants of disease;
- Drug utilization by indication;
- Monitoring of new prescription drugs;
- Safety and effectiveness of prescription drugs;
- direct costs of medical care;
- application guidelines in daily practice;
- clinical decision analysis.

IPCI is a project of MI&EUR BV, which is a 100% daughter of the Erasmus MC Holding BV, and
linked to the department of Medical Informatics of the Erasmus MC.

The IPCI database is located at the Erasmus MC Rotterdam in The Netherlands and is operated
by the department of Medical Informatics in close collaboration with the Unit of Pharmaco-epidemiology.
